A prefeita de Serra Talhada, Márcia Conrado, representou o município nesta quinta-feira (03/07) na Reunião do Fórum de Prefeitos e Prefeitas da América Latina, que tem por objetivo promover a troca de experiências sobre políticas públicas voltadas ao enfrentamento das mudanças climáticas e reúne gestores de diversos países do continente. O evento também objetiva a união de esforços para buscar soluções locais que contribuam para desafios globais, além de destacar iniciativas que sirvam de inspiração para outras cidades latino-americanas.
Durante o encontro, Serra Talhada foi uma das três cidades da América Latina selecionadas para apresentar um caso emblemático de ação climática. A prefeita detalhou como funciona a Coleta Seletiva Porta a Porta, programa que organiza a gestão de resíduos sólidos do município, garante a inclusão social de catadores e catadoras e fortalece a economia circular. A iniciativa também contribui para reduzir a quantidade de lixo destinado a aterros sanitários e amplia a conscientização da população sobre a importância de separar os resíduos em casa.
“Ser convidada para apresentar a experiência de Serra Talhada em um fórum desse porte mostra que é possível construir políticas públicas efetivas quando há diálogo, compromisso e participação popular. Nosso trabalho com a coleta seletiva é resultado de uma parceria entre poder público, catadores e a comunidade, que entendem a importância de cada um fazer a sua parte para proteger o meio ambiente e gerar renda para quem vive desse trabalho”, afirmou Márcia Conrado.
Ainda segundo a prefeita, “Serra Talhada vai seguir trabalhando para ampliar a coleta seletiva, valorizar ainda mais os profissionais que atuam nessa área e criar novas oportunidades de renda para as famílias. Nosso compromisso é cuidar do meio ambiente, gerar trabalho digno e mostrar que o desenvolvimento sustentável é possível quando há união de esforços”, finalizou.
