Com a presença de moradores e da juventude interessada na redução da poluição, emitida pelas chaminés das lavanderias em Toritama, teve início, na noite da quinta-feira (03), no Espaço Central, a ‘Assembleia Cidadã RespirAR Puro’. Com apoio da Secretaria de Agricultura e Meio Ambiente da Prefeitura de Toritama, a iniciativa, da Vereadora Carol Gonçalves em parceria com o Delibera Brasil tem como objetivo incentivar a população a desenvolver soluções sobre, “como as lavanderias industriais podem produzir sem poluir o ar?”.
Essa é a primeira Assembleia Cidadã pelo Clima a acontecer no Estado de Pernambuco. Em 2022, apenas três cidades do país foram selecionadas pela organização Delibera Brasil para debater sobre o meio ambiente. Em Toritama, 40 moradores e moradoras foram selecionados através de um sorteio para desenvolver soluções sobre os gases poluentes liberados pelas lavanderias. A Capital do Jeans conta hoje com cerca de 70 lavanderias industriais que precisam estar alinhadas às boas práticas ambientais e que não prejudiquem a saúde da população.
Participaram do evento a Vereadora Carol Gonçalves, o Secretário de Meio Ambiente, João Paulo Rocha, e a co-fundadora do Delibera Brasil, Fé Império. Para a vereadora Carol Gonçalves, a assembleia cidadã representa um marco ambiental no processo industrial de Toritama. Na opinião da co-fundadora do Delibera Brasil, Fé Império, a Assembleia Cidadã de Toritama está tendo a oportunidade de resolver um problema que tem como desafio conciliar a questão da economia com a sustentabilidade.
A Assembleia Cidadã RespirAR Puro acontece durante todo o mês de novembro, em Toritama. Sendo realizada às quintas-feiras, e nos dois últimos sábados do mês. As reuniões acontecem no Espaço Central (Antigo Mercado Público) e são abertas ao público em geral.
