O ingresso do parlamentar na legenda do ex-presidente da República Jair Bolsonaro foi anunciado após assinar sua ficha de filiação na última quarta-feira, dia 3.
Alcides Cardoso, conhecido por sua posição à direita no espectro ideológico, sua oposição ao governo do presidente Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) e sua defesa da base da governadora Raquel Lyra (PSDB), agora reforça o palanque do ex-ministro do Turismo Gilson Machado Neto (PL) na disputa pela Prefeitura do Recife.
O vereador destacou sua identificação com as bandeiras do PL e seu compromisso em defender a gestão da governadora Raquel Lyra e da vice-governadora Priscila Krause na Câmara do Recife. Ele ressaltou sua intenção de fortalecer o partido e apoiar o projeto de eleger Gilson Machado prefeito da cidade.
Durante as eleições de 2022, Alcides trabalhou ativamente para atrair votos de eleitores de Bolsonaro na capital para a governadora Raquel Lyra. Na Câmara Municipal, ele enfrentou questões como corrupção na pandemia da Covid-19, desperdício de dinheiro público e atrasos nas obras da gestão municipal.
O presidente estadual do PL, Anderson Ferreira, e o deputado André Ferreira enfatizaram a contribuição de Alcides para o crescimento do partido no Recife e sua afinidade com os valores e princípios da legenda. O ex-ministro Gilson Machado Neto também elogiou a chegada de Alcides ao partido, destacando sua importância para o projeto político da legenda na capital pernambucana.
