O presidente nacional do PDT, deputado André Figueiredo (PDT-CE), anunciou que o partido está considerando deixar a base governista do presidente Lula (PT).
A possibilidade surgiu principalmente após o PT lançar um candidato próprio à prefeitura de Fortaleza, onde o PDT tenta reeleger José Sarto.
O PT, por sua vez, lançou o deputado estadual Evandro Leitão para a disputa.
